Wireless security at the Open Golf Championship

Working in partnership with integrator Baydale Control Systems, 802 Global's new rapid deployment wireless camera was installed at the Open Golf Championship, Hoylake.

The system consisted of a standard Panasonic pan tilt zoom camera, an MPEG-4 encoder, a Firetide wireless mesh node plus a power supply, all mounted in a custom weatherproof aluminium housing.

The camera was set up to communicate with a second wireless mesh node seven hundred metres away. Here the video signal was decoded and transmitted over a BT fibre to the control room.

The advanced mesh technology means that the wireless nodes automatically search out and link to their neighbours without any need for user programming on site. Multiple cameras can connect back to a single hub either directly or via one or more repeaters. Several PTZ camera vendors are supported, including Forward Vision, Panasonic and Dennard.
